Building and Plumbing Commission Victoria: A Useful Resource for Building Owners

The Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria’s building and plumbing regulator and an important source of information for anyone building, renovating or developing property in Victoria.

The BPC oversees areas including builder and practitioner registration, building and plumbing compliance, inspections and audits, domestic building disputes and consumer protection.

Its website also contains information about building permits, occupancy permits, registered building practitioners, owner-builder requirements, the National Construction Code and pool and spa safety.

For property owners, one particularly useful tool is the ability to check whether a builder, building surveyor or other practitioner holds the appropriate registration or licence for the work they are undertaking.

While the BPC regulates Victoria’s building system, your appointed building surveyor assesses your specific building permit application and carries out the regulatory functions associated with your permit.
