Australian Building Codes Board: Understanding the National Construction Code
If you’re planning a building project in Victoria, you may hear your builder, designer or building surveyor refer to the National Construction Code (NCC).
The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is the organisation responsible for producing and maintaining the NCC, which sets the minimum technical requirements for the design and construction of buildings and plumbing systems across Australia.
The NCC covers important areas including structural safety, fire safety, accessibility, energy efficiency, health and amenity. Victoria adopted NCC 2025 from 1 May 2026, alongside Victorian building legislation and regulations.
For homeowners, builders, architects and developers, the ABCB website is a useful place to access the current National Construction Code, supporting guidance and technical resources.
